About Us
This neighborhood (circa 1920) was originally built as a 45-acre resort that included 50 small cottages and log cabins that, during that era, was located just outside Asheville. The resort and nearby area offered guests many entertainment amenities, including hiking trails, picnic grounds, a stable and riding ring, shuffle-board court, swimming pool, music, square dancing, and the pleasure of being in the midst of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. The resort was a popular vacation and honeymoon destination for more than two decades and boasted it’s own restaurant, mail room, porter and maid services, and a laundry that supplied steam heat to 24 of the cabins via underground piping.
The city of Asheville gradually expanded and surrounded the resort. In the early 1950’s the cabins were sold as private residences, but the charm of the area has been maintained. Many of the remaining cabins in this quiet neighborhood have been totally renovated, and it remains a desired rental destination. According to the locals, Asheville’s favorite novelist, Thomas Wolfe, stayed at the resort while working on one of his books….perhaps it was in The Silver Moon or The Robin’s Nest!
